Vintage Armchair B3 'Wassily' by Marcel Breuer for Italian Gavina w/ Label c.1967 Bauhaus

£1,250.00

Vintage Armchair B3 'Wassily' by Marcel Breuer for Italian Gavina w/ Label c.1967 Bauhaus

Lightly refurbished Wassily chair in excellent condition from the licensed Gavina production of the chair ranging from 1962 until 1968.

Deep cleaned + restored both frame & leather. Re-stitched part of the seating, finished as original. Slight discolouration to the chrome at the back (as seen in picture).

"Marcel Breuer designed the Wassily Chair (Model B3) in 1925 while at the Bauhaus, inspired by bicycle handlebars and the newly available seamless steel tubing. After painter Wassily Kandinsky admired the original prototype, Breuer made a second for him, giving the chair its famous name."

Over the years the licensed Wassily chair has only been produced by the Bauhaus Workshop, Thonet, Gavina and since 1968 up until today by Knoll that purchased Gavina in the end of the 60s.

I have a second chair also from the Gavina production on another listing.

Dimensions

Width - 78cm

Depth - 68cm

Height - 72cm

Seating Height - 40cm (at the very front, leather has stretched over the years)
