Penguin Donkey MK2 Bookcase by Ernest Race Produced by Isokon Plus Windmill Furniture for Penguin Books
Isokon Plus Penguin Donkey Mark 2 Bookcase by Ernest Race Produced by Isokon Plus Windmill Furniture for Penguin Books.
This is a modern licensed reproduction by Isokon Plus (Windmill Furniture) for Penguin Books. RRP £714 (sold out).
Overall good condition, few scuffs that have been lightly restored.
Finish: Red with cherry legs
"Ernest Race, 1963
Unlike its curvy predecessor, Ernest Race’s Isokon Penguin Donkey Mark 2 was crafted with straight lines and a flat top. Made by Isokon Plus in London.
The updated Donkey was advertised as being an “obliging creature which holds up to 90 paperbacks in two panniers …and provides a convenient chairside table for your tray of hors d’oeuvres, coffee cups, glass, ashtray, knitting or anything else you want to keep beside you.”
"In partnership with Isokon Plus, Penguin brings you brand new colours of the Isokon Penguin Donkey Mark 2. The original bookcase first launched in the 60s alongside a vision for modernist living, and it is designed to hold your Penguin Collection perfectly, while doubling as a side table for your afternoon tea, biscuits, and other reading accompaniments.
This Penguin Red shade is exclusive to the Penguin Shop and limited to 100 units (sold out)."
I currently have a 1960s Isokon Long Chair by Marcel Breuer in a separate listing.
Dimensions:
Width - 53.5 cm
Depth - 405 cm
Height - 39.5
