Vintage Set of Four 'La Fonda' Dining Chairs by Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller C.1970
Rare set of four La Fonda fibreglass side chair model 1700-1 in their original fabric upholstery. These particular chairs were produced by the Fehlbaum family (later to become Vitra) in Germany under license by Herman Miller.
'The name 'La Fonda' refers to the Mexican restaurant 'La Fonda Del Sol' in the prestigious Time-Life Building in New York City. These frames were specially designed for this restaurant in 1961 in consultation with the Eames friend Alexander Girard.'
Overall the chairs are in really good condition considering their age, the upholstery in particular has been deep cleaned and there's no stains or imperfections that stand out. All of the aluminium chrome plated bases have some light flaking, however this is not very obvious as there's aluminium underneath and no rust apparent on the frames.
I am asking £400 per chair, or £1400 for the complete set.
