Vintage Isokon Penguin Donkey Mark 2 Bookcase by Ernest Race for Isokon Plus c.1960.
This is a vintage piece from the early 60s with the original makers mark label to the underside. Overall good vintage conditon, few imperfections and minor hairline-cracks in the paint.
Deep cleaned and waxed all white paint for future protection and added Danish oil to the cherry wood details.
Finish: White with cherry legs.
"Ernest Race, 1963 Unlike its curvy predecessor, Ernest Race’s Isokon Penguin Donkey Mark 2 was crafted with straight lines and a flat top. Made by Isokon Plus in London.
The updated Donkey was advertised as being an “obliging creature which holds up to 90 paperbacks in two panniers …and provides a convenient chairside table for your tray of hors d’oeuvres, coffee cups, glass, ashtray, knitting or anything else you want to keep beside you.”
